Uma Strong Marshall Outreach

Uma Strong Marshall Outreach (USMO) is a non-profit based out of Flint, Michigan that was incorporated in 2017 and founded, by Dominique Strong. USMO’s goal is to empower, encourage, and enrich youth ages two through twelve years of age through reading and writing literacy, computer literacy, and mentorship programs to produce wholesome attitudes as productive individuals. 

Uma Strong Marshall Outreach operates in three components as community builders throughout the City of Flint. For the last six years as park adopters through Keeping Genesee County Beautiful (KGCB), we have adopted three city parks located in the City of Flint’s 2nd, 7th, and 9th ward neighborhoods. Once the parks are updated with safe playing equipment through KGCB we implement educational programs and community events within the neighborhood to assist with creating a sense of belonging amongst the residents. For the last three years, USMO's goal has been to provide a safe and fun space to promote physical activity in the park while learning. 

During the summer months, for eight to ten weeks the reading/writing literacy program, for youth ages two to twelve years of age, that resides near Brennan Park meets twice a week for a total of six hours. Since 2017, with the educational assistance from certified teachers & nutrition instructors from Genesee Intermediate School District- the early childhood learning outreach team provides some of the learning material and supplies for the age-appropriate curriculum. Uma Strong Marshall Outreach also provides social services resources through an annual giveaway; Warming Bodies Through Love which provides Genesee county families (youth ages birth to seventeen years old) from a lower socioeconomic class with winter attire that are facing economic hardships during the winter months.
