About UCC
For over 40 years, UCC has been a cornerstone of the Cambodian community, fostering local engagement and leadership rooted in Cambodian cultural values. In the year, UCC serves over 4,000 community members through programs focused on health equity, community integration, youth enrichment, and economic inclusion. Currently, UCC is concentrating on the following key areas:
Health Equity
Health Equity Program is dedicated to empowering Cambodian community members, particularly seniors, to age well. Through our Community Wellness Program, we have enrolled over 300 seniors, enhancing both their physical and mental health. Additionally, we have educated over 200 young families and caregivers on improving family relationships, especially with young children. Each year, we connect over 300 unique community members with food boxes and grocery vouchers, donated by local agencies. From October 2023 to March 2024, we provided more than 1,000 case management services.
Economic Inclusion
Business Navigation program offers a variety of resources and support tailored to the needs of entrepreneurs and small business owners. Prioritizing accessibility and inclusivity, we provide resources in Khmer to ensure that all community members benefit. Our services include business counseling, access to capital, technical assistance, and a range of workshops and webinars. Whether starting or expanding a business, we are here to guide and support every step of the way, fostering economic growth and sustainability in Cambodia Town and throughout Long Beach.
Community Integration
Benefits Enrollment: The Benefits Enrollment Center (BEC) assists low-income individuals with Medicare, helping them access programs that cover healthcare, food, and more. Using online tools and a person-centered approach, BECs help low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities find and enroll in all eligible benefits programs, creating coordinated, community-wide access systems. These benefits include SNAP, LiHEAP, and Medi-Cal. The Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) helps low-income community members apply for Medi-Cal, SNAP, General Relief, and CalWorks.
Immigration/Pathway to Citizenship: We provide assistance with naturalization applications, fee waiver requests, and green card replacement applications for lawful permanent residents.
Housing Counseling: Our Housing Counseling program offers guidance on seeking, financing, maintaining, renting, or owning a home. We provide First-Time Home Buyers and Rental Counseling.
Youth Enrichment
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Program: Youth aged 17-24 receive free, paid training to become certified nursing assistants in an 8-week course. This program equips participants with valuable skills for entering the workforce and enhances the credentials of experienced healthcare professionals.
CalVIP: Youth aged 16-24 participate in a 6-month program focused on leadership skills, soft skills, cultural education, job and career exploration, mentorship, and networking opportunities.
Kids Art: Children aged 5-13 build confidence and enhance their art skills by learning about art history and various art techniques.
Living Arts: This 6-month program for youth aged 14-24 offers hands-on art workshops led by guest artists who share their career journeys, provide industry insights, and teach practical art skills to inspire students to think like professional artists.
Youth Alumni Network: Graduates of any UCC youth program can join the Youth Alumni Network, where they receive information on work, internship, and volunteer opportunities, scholarships, community events, new UCC programs, and more, keeping them connected to UCC and the community.
