Founded in 1957, UCP of Greater Hartford provides a unique summer camp experience for people with physical and intellectual disabilities.

UCP of Greater Hartford’s Camp Harkness program, located in Waterford, is a rarity in Connecticut. Camp Harkness is a fully wheelchair accessible camp that allows campers with disabilities to have a summer camp experience while having their medical needs met. 

Campers choose which activities they want to participate in during the sessions. Consequently, each individual develops a sense of responsibility, empowerment, and confidence which carries over into other areas of their lives. Daily activities which include swimming, boating, horseback riding, etc., give campers the opportunity to learn something new and improve other life skills.
