Health & Human Services: We pay close attention to the health and well-being of the many people we serve: a mother undergoing chemotherapy in Forest Hills, Queens; toddlers in an autism-specific playgroup in Westchester; and an elderly man in Kiev, Ukraine, who relies on weekly deliveries of blood-pressure medication. Aging: Taking seniors seriously is part of our tradition and part of our everyday routine. Getting older is different than it used to be. Younger retirees and naturally occurring retirement communities are just two ways the landscape is changing. We've got our ears to the ground around the New York area. And we're getting great feedback. Vulnerable Populations: We make it a point to focus our gaze — and our attention — on people around us who are often overlooked. Advocating for youth at risk, victims of domestic violence, and people with disabilities is part of how we articulate Jewish values and work toward making the world a better place. Jewish Education: In synagogues, schools, parks, and community centers, we're celebrating our rich heritage through art, music, and text study. From classrooms dedicated to adult learning on Long Island to day schools in the former Soviet Union, and all-expense-paid investigations of Israel for first-time visitors under the age of 27, we're infusing pride and knowledge into our rich heritage. Disaster & Trauma Relief: Every day, every week, every year, we're working to strengthen our network and provide assistance when the unimaginable occurs. We know that crises don't end as soon as an ambulance leaves the scene or flood waters recede. That's why we develop and maintain relationships with a network of more than 100 local agencies around the world. Source: www.ujafedny.org
