Do you remember your first day of kindergarten?

Excited...a little nervous...you're a big kid now - off to school with older brothers and sisters...

Did you know in Kootenai County only 58.7% of children entering kindergarten have the pre-literacy skills needed to read at grade level.  When children are not ready to learn in Kindergarten, they are already behind.

It is known that kids who start school behind - stay behind.  But we can all join together to help.  United Way of North Idaho wants to make sure the kids in our community are ready for kindergarten, ready to learn and able to be successful in school so they can go on to bright futures.

United Way of North Idaho is leading a collaboration that has launched a program providing training and tools for parents of children birth to age five. Teaching parents how to be their child's best first teacher.
