United Way of Northern California is a leading nonprofit and thought leader dedicated to helping Northern California residents build better lives. We do this by running and supporting programs that focus on the building blocks of a good quality of life: health, education, housing, and financial stability.

Our team is here for individuals and the entire community, not just in everyday circumstances but also during public emergencies, disasters, and other crises. From deploying emergency relief during wildfires to supporting families facing homelessness, we are committed to being a trusted partner when it matters most.

Why Giving Tuesday Matters:

On Giving Tuesday, your support helps ensure we can continue our critical work. Your donation will directly contribute to programs that provide emergency housing, disaster relief, education support, and essential resources for those in need. Together, we can help our community not only recover from challenges but also thrive in the face of adversity.

Join us in building a stronger, more resilient Northern California—because when we Live United, we can overcome any obstacle.

Our Programs and Current Impact:

Disaster Relief and Recovery: United Way of Northern California plays a critical role in responding to natural disasters, including the current Park Fire. We are actively fundraising to provide immediate assistance and long-term recovery efforts to those impacted. Our team works swiftly to deploy emergency funds, connect people with essential resources, and support their journey to recovery.

The South Market Micro Shelter: Our innovative Micro Shelter Program has achieved an 80% success rate, helping residents transition from temporary shelter into more permanent housing solutions. This program provides a safe, stable environment while individuals and families work towards securing lasting housing, helping break the cycle of homelessness in Northern California.

Recovery Happens | Substance Use Disorder: Through our Recovery Happens initiative, we are committed to addressing the stigma surrounding opioid and stimulant use. Our educational outreach and capacity-building efforts empower communities to embrace evidence-based treatment and recovery practices. Together, we are breaking down barriers and fostering a supportive, inclusive environment for those facing addiction.

VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program: Our VITA program offers free tax return filing services to low- and moderate-income individuals and families. Each year, this program puts thousands of dollars back into the pockets of community members, helping them achieve financial stability and invest in their futures.

211 NorCal: 211 NorCal is a free, confidential helpline and website that connects people with local resources. Available 24/7, 211 offers referrals to local services that address basic human needs, disaster relief, mental and physical health resources, employment support, and much more. It has been a vital resource during disasters like the Park Fire, providing timely information and support to those affected.

United for Equity: United Way of Northern California is dedicated to amplifying and fostering voices for racial justice, equity, and inclusion in the North State. Established in 2020, the North State Equity Fund supports organizations that promote equal opportunity. Guided by our anti-racism statement, the fund reduces barriers for equity-focused organizations by simplifying the grant process. Our annual A Toast to Equity fundraiser brings together advocates, leaders, and community members who are advancing these critical causes.
