Our Summer Ultimate Reading Fun (S.U.R.F.) program is only a year old, but it has been a great success. Through the donations from United way supporters we were able to buy 8 books for over 200 first-grade students in our community. The goal of our program is to help improve reading scores by giving children, especially those in high poverty schools, a new book that they could read with a family member, each week that they are out of school for the summer.

The program will do its part in lessening the summer reading gap, but the true joy of this program is seeing the looks on the childrens' faces when they realize that they are getting a free bag of books. The appreciation that they have  really warms the heart.
