Unloop provides pathways to thriving wage careers in software development for formerly incarcerated people. We leverage a network of community partnerships, employer partnerships, and dedicated volunteers to expand access to tech and advocate for fair chance hiring. The priority population of people we serve is those historically underrepresented in tech and most marginalized by the legal and prison system including women and people of color.
Formerly incarcerated people are in need of thriving wage careers for the same reasons as everyone else. It is what opens up the pathway for people to secure housing, afford groceries, take care of their family and loved ones, and strengthen their communities.
Unloop combines the efforts of different organizations supporting formerly incarcerated people to marry them into one cohesive pathway that addresses pre-release support, reentry support, technical education, and employment opportunities that pave the way for opportunities in tech for formerly incarcerated people.
This year we project to serve 20-30 individuals returning to their communities. To accomplish this we are fundraising to obtain the needed supply, resources, and assistance to successfully serve our participants. This includes materials such as developer-ready computers, hotspot devices to access the internet from transitional housing, and tuition assistance for technical education.
So far, of those who have completed our full pathway from reentry navigation to employment placement, 0% have recidivated demonstrating the concrete stability that support can bring to a person’s life.
Please consider providing a one-time or recurring gift this GiveBIG to support individuals who are ready and prepared to contribute to their communities!
Check out our participant, Victor Sauceda, in a recent Vice write-up about the excessive barriers formerly incarcerated people face to employment and the need for fair chance hiring.
