Upper Valley Cares

My name is John Fishburne, and I am a board member of Upper Valley Cares - a nonprofit organization

that was created to provide affordable (or even free) mental health services to rural communities that

lack access to quality mental health care.

We are able to accomplish our mission by pairing clients with student clinicians who are completing

their master’s level studies at local universities. Our student therapists are vetted by our board and are

well supervised by either a professor from their respective counseling programs, or by our own state

licensed “in-house” supervisor.

We believe that this model is mutually beneficial for everyone involved: Your students or community

members will have access to our student clinicians through the convenience of our secure telehealth

platform, while our student counselors benefit from having additional opportunities for gaining valuable

therapy experience and clinical training while completing their degree.

It should be known that our organization is not trying to compete with existing mental health options in

your school or community. Our mission is to overcome identified barriers to treatment, to include

limited finances, a scarcity of available options, and/or the difficulties created by lengthy travel to

receive therapy.
