Urban Concepts of NY Round-The- Clock-Nursery Inc

Gail Davis, a visionary and trail blazer, is the founder and CEO of Urban Concepts/Round-the-Clock Nursery (RCN), which was established twenty-four years ago in a Central Harlem apartment.  Ms. Davis had the dream to make a change in her community by providing outstanding childcare and early education to foster the future success of her scholars, far beyond Pre-K.  She wanted to create an environment where children could learn and grow at their own pace, and families could pursue a career and not worry about the care and safety of their little ones.  She strongly, and rightfully so, believes success starts before a child can walk. 

Over the years, RCN has become a highly sought-after program, and it has expanded to three locations in Harlem and one in the Bronx.  Since 1996, RCN has been providing students with a rich and diverse learning environment. Its unparalleled teaching methods help to launch students into the successful future they always dreamed of having.

 Ms. Davis proudly states, “RCN is committed to supporting, loving, caring for, developing, and teaching the children entrusted to us—always putting their needs first. Every child is unique, and we believe in respecting the diversity of families, cultures, languages, and traditions of the children of Round-the-Clock Nursery. Our curriculum encourages child-initiated activities to promote a sense of independence with the belief that gives children a sense of worth. Every room in each daycare center has the name of a prestigious university or college. We want all students to know that they can achieve their college dreams, and we are here to help.”

As Round-the-Clock Nursery continued to grow and thrive, Ms. Davis was always thinking of ways she could do more for the children in her preschools.  This led to what she now calls “My Baby,” the Round-the-Clock Nursery’s “Follow-Me-to-College Scholarship Fund.”  It was created so that she could follow at least one child every year—from each of the four locations—to college and beyond.  

To further support and encourage RCN’s highest-achieving Pre-K graduates as they continue their education, and to track their progress over the years, Mrs. Davis has awarded approximately 100 scholarships!  These gifts, which can only be accessed after they graduate from high school, will be used for their college education and is the “Follow-Me-to-College Scholarship Fund.”

While fundraising efforts and donations at Round-the-Clock Nursery’s four locations contribute to support the scholarships, more financial help is desperately needed. The current economic challenges makes it is difficult to meet the demands of the fund and address the needs of the preschool communities.  The cost of a college education continues to rise and any support that families can receive is greatly appreciated.

Ms. Davis said in a recent interview: “Today, going to college is no longer a want, but a need.  If we can make a difference in a child’s life by helping to support the cost of college, then our efforts will certainly not go unnoticed.”  RCN wants to keep the college dreams alive for our Harlem and Bronx Pre-K graduates.
