Utah Afterschool Network

Afterschool programs have the power to positively impact and greatly enrich a child's life. Growing research shows that quality out-of-school time programs create positive outcomes for youth, families and communities by:

 

• Increasing academic achievement and social success

• Supporting families

• Developing healthy, safe communities

 

UAN supports out-of-school time programs that keep youth learning, engaged, and safe.  UAN assists afterschool teams in building quality programs by:

 

• Mentoring program staff

• Facilitating professional learning opportunities

• Collaboratively creating a model of best practices statewide, and

• Initiating and supporting the creation of regional networks to address area specific issues

 

Additionally, UAN supports national and statewide advocacy initiatives that promote afterschool programs.  This includes meeting with state and local political leaders to help educate them on current afterschool issues, attending statewide meetings to network connections for afterschool support, and attending national conferences to learn best practices for Utah programs.

In the past year, with your support, UAN has accomplished a number of goals targeted toward improving afterschool quality statewide.  These include but are not limited to:

 

• Providing technical assistance and best practices consultation to over 300 afterschool/out-of-school time programs

• Forming a STEM steering committee of STEM professionals to create a sustainable STEM system for Utah’s afterschool programs

• Supporting the creation of two regional networks with more expected this upcoming year

• Sending UAN staff to multiple national conferences for best practices training and professional development

• Working with state and local legislators to continue to support and sustain Utah’s out-of-school time programs
