EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Opera by Children

• Our flagship education program, Opera by Children, travels around the state of Utah, working in classrooms with students as they integrate their education into original operas. Next year, OBC will be celebrating 20 years of working directly with teachers through Professional Development and side-by-side mentoring in the classroom with students. Students present their world-premiere operas for their peers and family during school and evening performances throughout the state.

Utah High School Musical Theatre Awards  (UHSMTA)    

• Utah High School Musical Theatre Awards and our partner Zions Bank Broadway at the Eccles are dedicated to recognizing amazing accomplishments being made around the state in high school musical theatre productions. UHSMTA winners receive a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity including studying, performing, and competing at the national competition at Broadway’s Minskoff Theatre.

Festival Academy

• The Academy offers adult-educational courses covering a variety of stimulating subjects taught by Utah Festival professionals and include exciting topics such as conducting, directing, dance, music history, costume design, make-up, art, and ethnic cooking. Utah Festival Academy is for anyone, but especially for Educators.  Teachers who attend may receive relicensure points for learning in these classes and events that are presented by industry professionals.  Mainstage productions and concerts are also available for teachers to receive relicensure points from the state of Utah for attendance. 

Conservatory of the Performing Arts

• The Conservatory offers specially-designed classes for students ages 4 to 18 interested in musical theatre who receive year-round, intensive, professional training in drama, dance, and musical theatre. These classes intentionally instill self-discipline and enhance participants’ performance skills and audition techniques.

Students in SEATS

• Utah students from rural to inner city schools are able to attend our productions at a substantial discount because of POPS funding. Opera by Children and Utah High School Musical Theatre Awards participating students attend Free of Charge! We would like to double the number of students able to receive these benefits.
