Helping workers and their families with health, personal and financial problems is the oldest collective activity of the American labor movement. Long before unions could legally exist, workers were forced to meet in secret and collective bargaining and grievance procedures were just dreams. To take care of each other, workers passed the hat to help feed the family of an injured worker or a blacklisted organizer. When a working family was devastated by fire or storm, neighbors pitched in to help rebuild. Early guilds and rail unions organized relief funds and death benefits to help members’ families. With this historical foundation as its basis, Utah Labor Community Services seeks to maintain this proud tradtion and be a resource for Utah's working families.

One of the functions of the modern labor movement is to take care of our brothers and sisters when they face disaster or hard times. The Utah Labor Community Services facilitates this coordination and outreach. We work with organized labor, community organizations, and our neighbors to help make sure that even in a termporary time of need, that no one goes hungry or without any essential item.
