Valley of the Sun United Way’s Focus

Valley of the Sun United Way envisions a community where every child, family and individual is healthy, has a safe place to live, and has every opportunity to succeed in school, in life and in work.

We put our collective efforts toward creating “Mighty Change” for Maricopa County individuals and families focused on health, housing and homelessness, education and workforce development.

Looking forward, we will work to:

• Remove barriers to ensure everyone in our community is healthy, with a focus on access to food and healthcare.
• Ensure all can have a safe home to call their own.
• Close opportunity gaps to ensure children read at grade level by 3rd grade and youth are prepared for educational success and employment.
• Open pathways to better paying jobs.

Who are Valley of the Sun United Way’s partners? 

The United Way collaborates with nonprofit agencies to create solutions that address our community’s most pressing social issues. These agencies must have a strong alignment to one of our four focus areas and help United Way move one or more of our seven bold goals forward.

Our bold goals:

• Decrease food insecurity by 50%
• Increase access to affordable healthcare by 100,000 individuals
• Reduce homelessness by 50%
• Increase 3rd grade reading proficiency by 25%
• Increase youth aged 16-24 engaged in education and employment opportunities by 38%
• Increase preparation of individuals for a living wage job by 33%
• Increase achievement of higher paying employment by 20%

United Way and its 26,000 donors, 100+ nonprofit and school partners, 500 business supporters and 6,600 volunteers come together to achieve these seven bold goals.
