VCS Gay Pride Rockland was established in 1999 to recognize and honor that LGBT people live and work in every corner of Rockland County and contribute to the rich diversity of our community.  Our signature pride event takes place annually on the second Sunday of June and is family friendly, child centered, open and welcoming to all.  Elected officials, community leaders, representatives of faith communities and speakers and entertainers appear main stage while street vendors and non-profit organizations set up booths to interact with attendees.  Our overarching goal is to fully main stream the LGBT community into the fabric of our county, state and nation.  Further, to assure that LGBT people and families have as easy access to  services and resources as do hetersexual and cisgender folks. 

Today, our VCS Gay Pride Rockland event will attract more than a thousand visitors - exposing that our suburban LGBT community is indistinguishable from the greater main stream suburban community, filled with young and old, families from all backgrounds, as well as friends and allies committed to social justice. 

As wonderful as it is to have a Pride event, it is not nearly enough.  In response, VCS has created LGBT events to take place throughout the year.  Our roster of educational events includes book signings, poetry readings, films followed by discussion, progfessional and lay-person training, workshops and community meetings.  On the entertainment side, VCS has produced concerts, comedy cabarets, karaoke, dances and so much more.  Our goal, stated in so many ways, is equality and justice for all - with no exceptions!
