Vélocity Bicycle Cooperative

The Vélocity Bicycle Cooperative is a non-profit, volunteer-run, and community-based organization.

We provide an educational do-it-yourself workshop and offer outreach programs, training, rides, and events to enable all levels of cyclists in building, maintaining, and embracing the fun of bicycles. We offer:

• Youth Programs with various departments of the City of Alexandria and other community organizations, providing training, customer service hours, and Earn-A-Bike projects.

• Bike Scholarship programs to help underprivileged people to come build a bike to use as their daily transportation and learn valuable life skils from our volunteers.

• Kid's Bike Rodeos and Giveaways. Last year we gave away 50 kid's bikes and participated in 5 rodeos. We are looking to increase both of these in 2017.

• Community Outreach Programs to serve community organizations, neighborhoods, and individuals with training and transportation solutions.

• Training Classes in basic and advanced bike maintenance.

• Open Shop Hours for do-it-yourself bike repair, supported with tools, stands, new and used bicycle parts, and facilitated by experienced volunteers.

• Bicycle Refurbishing and Recycling to receive and refurbish donated bicycles and make them available to the community.

• Bike Rides and Events to promote eco-friendly transportation, learning, and fun.

How do we do it? In short, we rely on staff and volunteer energy and the generosity of the community. The Co-op is managed and run by a Board, a small staff, and volunteers who are motivated and driven by the mission of Vélocity. Volunteers work for the passion and interest in sharing cycling skills and fun with the community.
