The Environmental Education Center provides Sustainable Agriculture and Water Programs that engage students, teachers and are provided for  FREE, many include FIELD TRIPS!

K-4th Grade Kids Conserve Water: This classroom program emphasizes the importance of conserving water.

 Essential Questions:

  • Where is water found on earth?
  • How does water get into and out of houses?
  • Why is it important to SAVE and NOT WASTE water?
  • How can we conserve water?

The level of knowledge spirals in higher grades.  All classrooms in grades K-4 are visited once a quarter.  The visit will include an expository text selection and a short activity.   Each child will get to keep the activity book at the end of the year.  .

5th grade “Connections”:  This 3 day program builds connections between Physical Science & Nature, Space & Water, Arizona State Parks & students, to understand the physical properties of water and its connections in nature. 

6th grade “Ground Water”:  Students understand the link between groundwater and surface water by interacting with a groundwater model, creating a class groundwater model and designing maps displaying all the watersheds in Arizona.

7th grade “Top Ten Wanted Dead & Alive Species”:   These lessons educate students about the economic, social and ecological impact of native and invasive species in the Verde River watershed by creating “Wanted” and “Found” posters along with a fieldtrip to Montezuma Well to see and understand the impact of invasive species on our natural world.

8th grade “Properties of Water”: Students will understand how the health and quality of a river affects all water users including human, agriculture, animal and industry by providing students with the opportunity to perform onsite chemical tests of the water.

Agriculture Programs

K-2nd grade “Agriculture in Literature”:   Three events a year.  Fall- “Pumpkins”,” March - Read Across America”, and a “Spring Reading”.  Each event includes an activity and book for the class to keep!

Food Connections (grade 3): Students investigate the process of growing food, and how it gets to our plate. Students will also receive a free Apple Ag Mag. Day #1 Where does food come from? Day #2 Clarabelle Making Milk and So Much More. Day #3 Apple Graphing

Arizona Agricultural 5 C’s (grade 4):  Cattle, Cotton and Citrus are the “Agricultural 5 C’s” of Arizona.  Students will learn many interesting facts about the 5C’s in this three day interactive program.  Visit #1 Agricultural Bingo, VISIT #2 Arizona Grown Graphing, VISIT #3 Cattle/Cotton Grammar.

Agriculture Kits: In partnership with the Arizona Farm Bureau Ag in the Classroom Program offers Curriculum Kits to teachers FREE of charge. You can check out kits for 2 weeks and teach the lessons. Curriculum Kits are all-inclusive and provide teachers with math, science, social studies and English Language Arts lessons. Also included are the materials needed to complete each lesson. All lessons are aligned to the Arizona State Learning Standards.
