At Verde Valley Caregivers, we are connecting the threads of our communities to create a tapestry of caring to assist the very senior members of our Verde Valley. We call them our "neighbors."
We are engaging individuals, businesses, local governments, organizations, and schools, to help provide assistive services so our neighbors can live independently in their homes for as long as possible.
All of our neighbor services are provided to them at no cost through the efforts of over 300 dedicated volunteers throughout the Verde Valley. In addition to individuals, we are engaging church groups, high school students, employee groups, and Americorp.
Verde Valley Caregivers provides services to neighbors in ten communities: Camp Verde, Clarkdale, Cornville, Cottonwood, Jerome, Lake Montezuma, McGuireville, Rimrock, Sedona and Village of Oak Creek.
Our services include: Transporting neighbors to medical and other appointments, shopping with or for neighbors, special assistance for neighbors transitioning from hospital to home, respite assistance, friendly visits and phone calling, business assistance, handy person help, and pet assistance.
Sometimes our volunteers become neighbors themselves.
Ann, who helped nearly 200 neighbors as a volunteer, became a neighbor herself. When Ann was diagnosed with cancer, she had to put her volunteerism at Caregivers on hold. “I’m going to beat this,” she told her friends and family, and “return (to Caregivers) as soon as I can.
Ann lost her husband several years ago, so returning home alone from the hospital was worrisome. She feared the possibility of falling down in her house at night. She knew the answer to her situation was to wear a Guardian Angel emergency alert pendant, provided by Verde Valley Caregivers.
“It’s very important to have the pendant at night because you’re so alone. You know you can reach somebody.”
Over 700 elderly and disabled throughout the Verde Valley depend upon our Guardian Angel emergency alert units to call for help if they fall in their home and are unable to reach their phone. Every week we hear from our neighbors how the Guardian Angel helped them get assistance when they have fallen in their homes.
The number of elderly and disabled needing our Guardian Angel units increases daily. About 400 additional units will be needed this year to serve our growing elderly population.
To support this valuable program for seniors in our community, we launched a campaign to purchase, as soon as possible, 100 new Guardian Angel medical alert units at a cost of $200 each—for a total cost of $20,000.
In addition to purchasing Guardian Angel emergency alert units, we also launched a major gifts campaign to raise $50,000 to support our transportation services and programs to help over 1,900 older adults in need, stay in their homes, surrounded by the memories and the things that are important to them.
Verde Valley Caregivers depends on individual donors for two thirds of its funding. Your gift today can turn your caring into action and help the senior members of our communities remain in their homes and enjoy their independence and quality of life.
