Verna's HELP Foundation is seeking funding to support our staff, producers, and equipment needed for our podcast, and our annual operating budget. "The Verna's H.E.L.P. Metroplex Buzz" is our weekly podcast that aims to help thousands of listeners with legal, homeless, and re-entry concerns, as well as assist small businesses and potential entrepreneurs. Our podcast is on weekly on BlogTalkRadio and is heard by local counties and global listeners. We are proud to be promoted locally by our radio partners, K104-K107.5 and DFWBAM. Our first podcast is scheduled for 8:00 PM on Thursday, Jan. 19, 26, Feb. 2, and Feb. 9, 2023. Afterward, we will host weekly panel discussions on five major community concerns. These include legal discussions with our pro bono team of attorneys and county officials, how to start a business and do business with the federal government, resource panel discussions on recidivism, homeless veterans, and senior citizen resources, community programs through local banks and other agencies to help small businesses and families, and Gov Assist SBLF programs.
Verna's H.E.L.P. Foundation is a 501(c)3 charitable non-profit organization that has been helping the community since 1982. We strive to help everyone live positively and provide education and business training to be self-sufficient and independent citizens. Our resource center serves as a business incubator and provides free workshops on business, grant writing, and legal topics. We also organize job fairs and back-to-school giveaways to help low-income families, while giving away clear backpacks to help deter crime in public schools. Our goal is to continue helping homeless veterans and provide resources for recidivism to help with housing, jobs, and education/training. We assist residents with applying for community resources and give them access to temporary to long-term housing referrals. All of our services are available on a first-served basis regardless of age, race, color, creed, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
We are proud of our history of advocating for change and implementing it. In 1986, Mayor A. Starke Taylor proclaimed Verna Thomas H.E.L.P. Foundation - Juneteenth Family Day Weekend, which brought together 20,000 people in Kiest Park without any incidents. In 1987, Verna Thomas H.E.L.P Foundation started Dallas' First No Crime Day, which is now celebrated as Dallas National Night Out. In 2014 we advocated for the State of Texas TEA and the Governor to mandate clear totes and backpacks. We advised and still today advocate for clear totes and clear backpacks. We believe that although a terrorist attack upon a school in the State of Texas may be improbable, this represents the first step toward preparedness…it’s like admitting that it is at least possible. Our students and fans need and deserve to have a safer and more secure environment when attending public schools and events. Acknowledging that public safety is our top priority, implementing this initiative will make the job of checking items much more effective, and efficient, and expedite entry into the stadiums and other public events.
We continue to document the need for resources, such as a shelter for families in Dallas, and bring awareness to the community.
