Veterans Guest House

The Veterans Guest House helps us give back to those who have given selflessly to ensure our freedom and liberty.  We provide temporary overnight lodging for Veterans and their family members who must travel long distances to receive medical care.

The Guest House began back in 1994 when it was realized that families and veterans were spending the night in their car because they had no means to go anywhere else. 

Subsequently we have also learned that many of these individuals would forgo medical care or would not be with their loved ones if our facility was not available.  The other side of this is that many families and veterans have taken on substantial debt for hotel stays in these circumstances. 

All of the funding for the Veterans Guest House comes from the generosity of individuals, businesses and foundations.  We receive no operational funding from any government agency.  Most of the veterans and their families that utilize the Guest House are unable to donate the suggested $25/night.  We are proud to never turn anyone away if they are unable to pay. 

The geographic area we serve covers 100,000 sq. miles of territory in Nevada and eastern California—bounded by
Bishop on the south, Ely on the east, Elko on the north and Auburn, California on the west.  There are over 120,000
veterans in this service territory that utilize the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Reno for their medical care. We serve all hospitals, medical facilities, and long-term care facilities in the Reno/Sparks area

We currently see veterans who served in WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, through today’s Iraq and Afghanistan wars as well as peace time service.  Vietnam War veterans make up the majority of the veterans we support and are at the age when medical needs start to increase. 

Those Veterans traveling in on VA buses from outlying areas have easy access to the Veterans Administration
Medical Center from our home.  We are across
the street from the hospital, labs, doctor offices and the long term nursing care units.  We are also located on the main bus route which provides transportation to all other facilities.

The Veterans Guest House helps us give back to those who have given selflessly to ensure our freedom and liberty.  Where would these Veterans and their families stay if they didn’t have The Veteran’s Guest House?  It would impact our entire community and many would be back in their cars sleeping. As our original founders vowed “never again, on our watch, will this happen.”
