James K. Polk Elementary School is a vibrant community of learners! Help us fund the fourth grade trip to the Jamestown Settlement by purchasing tickets for students or by donating a bus!

The trip to the Jamestown Settlement is a capstone experience for the students and the teachers. The grant funding that supported this trip was lost several years ago so the PTA and PKP Administrators work together to fund the trip each year.

Throughout the school year, our students study the colonization of the Virginia coastline by English settlers and the impact that it had on the Powhatan culture in the area. The students learn about how the different populations dressed, what they ate, and how they lived each day. Through this hands on personalized experience, each student comes away with a deeper understanding and impact of the process of colonization.

Education aside, the students take coach buses (with movies on board the bus!), eat lunch at the Settlement, and shop at the gift shop! They love every minute of it!
