At Virginia Stage Company, we don’t just produce plays. We create access points for students discovering theatre for the first time, for service members and their families, and for individuals who have historically been left out of the arts.

Education: Where First Experiences Begin

For thousands of students each year, Virginia Stage Company is their first live theatre experience.

Through student matinees, in-school workshops, and curriculum-based study guides, we connect classroom learning to live performance and help students engage with literature, history, and storytelling in a way that actually sticks.

For many, it’s the moment theatre stops being abstract and becomes real.

Military: Serving Those Who Serve

We’re committed to making theatre accessible to the military community that shapes Hampton Roads.

Through partnerships with the Armed Services Arts Partnership, contributions to VetTix, and discounted military rush tickets, we provide opportunities for service members, veterans, and their families to experience live performance, often at little to no cost.

Because connection, reflection, and shared experiences matter, both on and off duty.

Every Brilliant Thing: Bringing Theatre Into the Community

Not everyone can come to the theatre. So we bring theatre to them.

Our touring production of Every Brilliant Thing travels throughout the region, offering free performances in community spaces such as schools, community centers, workplaces, and public venues.

This work removes barriers to access and creates space for conversation, connection, and mental health awareness in places where it’s needed most.

We believe access isn’t a bonus feature. It’s essential.

Through partnerships with Access Virginia and programs like Dramatically Able, we continue expanding who gets to fully experience live theatre.
