• Founded in 1987, Vogel Alcove was created to give homeless families residing in local shelters the opportunity for free, quality childcare in a safe and nurturing environment.
• Understanding that shelters are not an ideal learning environment, Vogel Alcove was created to give parents of these children a location to enroll their children while they worked during the day or as they worked to repair their lives while on the road to recovery.
• Fueled by extensive research from the Casey Foundation, Vogel Alcove has embraced a "two-generation" model to break the cycle of poverty for homeless children and their parents.
Vogel Alcove serves children and families that have been affected by homelessness. 50% of our families are currently homeless and residing in an emergency shelter or transitional living. 50% have housing, but live in crippling poverty.  Most of our families are led by single mothers with no support system to help them. The progress our parents have made toward building a better life for their children hangs in the balance because of the COVID-19 pandemic. All of our families are living in trauma on a normal day, COVID-19 exponentially increased that trauma.
The need to serve our families is greater than ever. To respond to our families' needs, we need your support to ensure Vogel Alcove maintains the services that have been vital to homeless children and their families since we opened our doors in 1987.
Your support will provide the following to Dallas' homeless children and their families that enroll in Vogel Alcove:
• Our Early Childhood* program that is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). This program not only provides highly-qualified, trauma-informed care but a USDA-sponsored food service program that provides a healthy breakfast, lunch and snack for each child, each day. We offer enrichment programs such as art, music and physical development and a Nature Explore-certified outdoor classroom with therapeutic gardens.
• Comprehensive School-age programming for children in pre-kindergarten through 5th grade, like our summer day camp, Camp Vogel that offers enrichment and sports activities, swimming lessons, arts and crafts, S.T.E.M. programs, Tech Clinics, dance classes, a chess program, yoga, social/emotional skill building, and field trips.
• Parent Opportunity Center which follows our two-generation model and provides Mental Health Support, Childhood Resources, Crisis Intervention, Parenting Support and more for parents of children enrolled at Vogel Alcove. Each parent is partnered with a Master of Social Work that provides 1:1 case management to work on personal goals and challenges.
