What happens to abused and neglected children once they are removed from an abusive situation?

Where do these children go? Who takes care of them?

Every year thousands of children are removed from their homes because their families are in crisis for various reasons- violence, drug abuse, mental illness, family tragedy - to name only a few.

These children are your neighbors, your children's friends, your students, your community, and our future. Without a safe and permanent home, they become wards of the state and are placed in foster care.  For many of these children, that means spending their childhood moving from one temporary home to another with no family to call their own.  It's scary.  It's traumatic.  It's lonely.  And it doesn't have to be that way.

These chidren need a voice.  They need an advocate who will step in to look out for their best interests, monitor their progress, address their needs and provide critical information directly to the judge.  CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteers are the "eyes and ears" of the court, and the "voices" of the chidren they serve.

CASA is the only program of its kind.  When a CASA volunteer is there, the child is two times more likely to find a safe, permanent home.

"There is nothing so great in life as knowing you have forever changed the course of a child's existence from one of despair to one of hope."  - CASA Volunteer
