Voices in Voting

Mission Statement: To educate and involve student in the election process, create an informed electorate and involve young people and their families in effective civic engagement.

Voices In Voting, previously known as KidsVoting Southern Nevada,  is a non-partisan, nonprofit organization working with schools and communities to enhance civic education and provide youth with an authentic voting experience.

Students have an opportunity to learn about current issues in the classroom, culminated by participating in live debates at the annual KidsVention event for Grades 5 and 7. Additionally, youth are engaged in online voting during local and/or federal elections.

The program lays the foundation for living as an informed, proactive citizen in a democratic society. The curriculum is offered through the school year and is correlated to local and state academic standards.

Ways we meet our Mission:

Education: An online PDE-accredited course for teachers. We have trained over 400 teachers and involved approximately 100 elementary, middle and high schools using age-appropriate modules.

Event: Annual KidsVention for 5th and 7th grade students providing a mini political convention without partisan politics. Debates on topics of interest are held with the students voting on the pro and con positions. KidsVention is patriotic, entertaining and encourages citizenship, decision making and critical thinking through voting.

Election: Online elections. The program delivers a democracy-based curriculum for students from kindergarten through high school.  After receiving grade appropriate classroom activities on the election process, students are eligible to cast ballots at their school and at home through online computer voting.

Voices In Voting (also known as Voices In Voting/Kids Voting Souther Nevada) is a domestic Non-profit Corporation formed in Nevada. The organization is on file with the Nevada Secretary of State and as a 501(c)(3), donations are tax deductible. Tax ID #20-1130614
