Volunteer NH is a unique non-profit. With a mission to promote the tradition of volunteer service in New Hampshire our work has expanded to include national as well as local initiatives and that role is always expanding.

Some of the work that we are most proud of occurred in response to the natural disasters of 2006-2008. During this time emergency preparedness programs built by Volunteer NH came forward to aid first responders when their resources were depleted at a time when citizens of the state of NH were in distress.

Approximately 700 New Hampshire citizens received direct assistance from VOAD, a newly formed program at the time.

In addition to response to disaster, Volunteer NH strives to recognize outstanding Volunteer service and provide training events that encourage and inspire best practice in Volunteer service and management.

The Spirit of NH Awards recognizes New Hampshire citizens for their outstanding contributions and commitments to community through volunteer service. Awards are given out by category and the event culminates with one deserving recipient receiving the Spirit of New Hampshire Award, the highest honor of the ceremony. Chosen by a panel of volunteers, the Spirit of NH Award, awards symbolizes and celebrates New Hampshire's history and tradition of volunteer spirit.

The Governor's Conference on Volunteerism, annual conference predates Volunteer NH. Originally implemented by the Office of the Governor, the conference provides training for volunteers, volunteer managers and others interested in service related topics.  Topics range each year, but encompass areas related to volunteerism in New Hampshire and the challenges and changes facing the industry. The Outstanding Volunteer Manager of the Year Award is presented annually by the Governor during the conference. This awarded is given to an individual whom emulates exemplary leadership and commitment to volunteerism and serves as a model to others.

Volunteer NH also administers AmeriCorps State programs, and serves as the New Hampshire Commission for National & Community Service. We work to offer funding opportunities for organizations who would like to utilize AmeriCorps resources to address tough community problems and to offer opportunities for individuals to participate as service members.  All AmeriCorps programs are funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
