Since 1980, Volunteer Alexandria has served as the go-to place for volunteer opportunities in Alexandria. We connect organizations that need help with volunteers who can step up. We also organize community service days giving Alexandrians (families, businesses, associations, and individuals) as young as six an opportunity to volunteer. We BUILD nonprofit capacity through volunteer recruitment and management, as well as training.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, VolAlx has:

  1. Quickly created and shared safety guidelines for working with volunteers for our nonprofits and shared with the community current needs and how to help, while staying safe and healthy.
  2. Created “Ready to Go” volunteer database of over 240 people, who are on stand-by to fill any emergency needs to the public.
  3. Mobilized, managed registration, and deployed over 10,000 people to help pack, distribute, and deliver meals to families. Recruited ALL volunteers for the school meal distribution for 15 months.
  4. Opened a donation center to receive, pack and distribute over 83,000 masks across the city.
  5. Mobilized people for agencies addressing food insecurity, rent assistance, and health (ALIVE, CASA Chirilagua, MRC, World Central Kitchen, Dept. of Community & Human Services, ARHA).
  6. Recruited 500+ skilled volunteers to assist with translating materials and content.
  7. Handed out over 11,000 pieces of literature about COVID-19, vaccines, and how to be prepared for a disaster across the city.

Your donation will help us connect more people to more causes, which means that food pantries will be fully staffed, seniors receive visitors, youth receive mental health support, children get read to, and much more. And Alexandria will be stronger because of YOU!
