A visit to Vulcan® Park and Museum is no average day in the park. With its captivating museum, lush green space and breathtaking views, Vulcan Park and Museum offers locals and visitors alike a relaxing and entertaining place to spend the day. And in the middle of it all is Vulcan – Birmingham’s colossal ambassador who welcomes visitors from near and far from his lofty perch atop Red Mountain. It’s no wonder Birmingham residents continue to vote VPM as the “best view” and one of the “best places to take out-of-town guests.”

We take pride in serving as one of Alabama’s premier attractions. Our interactive museum recounts the region’s rich industrial history in a compelling way that inspires visitors of all ages. The surrounding park grounds provide a historically rich venue for family picnics, concerts and signature events like Thunder on the Mountain, Birmingham’s traditional 4th of July fireworks display. And the view from Red Mountain, well, it speaks for itself.

Throughout the year, thousands of students from Kindergarten to High School visit Vulcan Park and Museum and experience one of our Guided Tours, which are grade-appropriate and carefully aligned with the Alabama Course of Study. Our innovative educational programs bring the story of Vulcan to life through theatre, dance and musical performances. A variety of outreach programs also enable us to carry our educational mission beyond the boundaries of the park and offer assistance to resource-challenged schools.

Vulcan Park and Museum is an independent, not for profit, 501(c)(3) organization. While the City of Birmingham provides partial funding to support the day-to-day operations of this city-owned asset, the support of individuals and the community-at-large are needed for us to fulfill our mission to preserve and promote Vulcan as the symbol for the Birmingham region, to advance knowledge and understanding of Birmingham's history and culture, and to encourage exploration of the region.

Every donation on Alabama Gives Day will make a giant impact! Please review our suggested amounts on the right or give what you can. Today, when you donate to Vulcan Park and Museum, you are not only showing your support for Alabama nonprofits; you are also become a part of Birmingham’s history.
