Walter Elwood Museum of the Mohawk Valley

A nonprofit organization

The WEM’s Commitment

To provide educational programming and events to the youth and families of the Mohawk Valley by highlighting our area’s rich history and culture, to foster in all a love of exploration, learning and action as our founder, Walter Elwood, characterized best and to preserve our collections and artifacts for generations to come.

Over the past several years, due to decreased funding sources and the economic situation, the Walter Elwood Museum has reduced its annual operating budget by 40%.  We survive and thrive by being creative and vigilant with our funds.  We perform many tasks in-house and utilize every resource at our disposal to accomplish more with less.  Every dollar received from grants, donated from businesses or individuals, and raised through special events is used to its fullest potential.  This year has been a banner year.  We have moved to a new location, opened ten plus beautiful exhibits, held several successful events at our new site, and hosted three years worth of phenomenally attended year round children’s camps.
