The Warrior-Scholar Project (WSP) offers a series of "academic boot camps" at top-tier university campuses across the U.S. each summer.  These boot camps are offered free of charge to enlisted service members and military veterans who have made the decision to go back to school after leaving service.  The WSP's academic boot camps help student veterans prepare to enter college and begin a rigorous, four-year academic curriculum in pursuit of a degree.

Military veterans are civic assets.  They are leaders, problem-solvers, and team builders.  They have a wealth of experience and technical skill, but often underestimate their own academic potential and lack the confidence they will need to exceed in higher education.  To tap that potential, WSP addresses veterans misconceptions about college and builds their confidence through an intense academic reorientation.

Our Warrior-Scholars learn the same analytic reading techniques that are used by college professors and are taught college-level writing skills by university writing instructors.  They are taught "tactical level" skills needed for college such as note-taking, test preparation, and time management.  They participate in evening discussion seminars on transitional issues vets face when moving back into civilian life in a college environment.  Finally, they become part of an continuous post-program alumni support group for the remainder of the time they are in college.

The growing list of campuses that host WSP academic boot camps include: Yale, Harvard, Georgetown, Cornell, USC, Oklahoma, U-Chicago, UNC, Syracuse, Amherst, University of Michigan, University of Arizona, and Texas A&M.  During WSP, participants stay in the dorms on campus, eat in the university dining hall, attend seminars in campus classrooms, and participate in classes led by the host university's professors. WSP covers all costs associated with the host university program (room, board, books, supplies, classes and workshops). Participants are only responsible for travel expenses to and from the program.
