We are WAVES, a US-based non-profit addressing some of the most pressing challenges confronting our planet's ecosystems and the species that rely on them. Our mission revolves around the belief that every creature plays a crucial role in maintaining the balance of natural systems. We focus on studying, protecting, and restoring native ecosystems, from the vital forests and oceans providing breathable oxygen to the weather that sustains life with essential water.

Our work involves collecting pivotal data to better understand the species reliant on these critical spaces. Preserving habitats globally is not only vital for biodiversity but also essential for the well-being of communities that depend on them.

Currently, our project involves a partnership in Palau with a local NGO. Together, we are monitoring the endangered dugong population, assessing population size, and mapping habitat use and migration. Palau, situated in the remote Indo-Pacific, poses challenges for us as a nascent NGO, particularly in terms of fuel and travel. Complicating matters further are impending military developments, some dangerously close to critical habitats, and our current field sites. Our goal is to proactively gather crucial data before these developments occur.

While we highly value the traditional ecological knowledge of local communities, we aim to complement it by accelerating the collection of science-based data. This data will be instrumental in combatting the destruction of marine habitats crucial for the survival of the dugong and the communities relying on them.
