Wayne Art Center

A nonprofit organization

Dedicated to enriching the community through the arts, the mission of Wayne Art Center (WAC) is “to afford artists and the broader community an interdisciplinary venue to explore, share and learn, while fostering a sense of community for arts education and appreciation."

Established in 1931 as the first art center on the Main Line, WAC provides instruction in the visual and performing arts. From its humble beginnings in a carriage house on Louella Avenue to its now expanded 30,000 square foot facility on Maplewood Avenue, WAC has been continuously serving the cultural needs of the community for more than 90 years.

WAC completed a capital campaign in 2008 that resulted in the creation of a three-building campus, tripling our size and allowing us to offer more classes, enroll more students, host more exhibitions, and reach out to more of our community. We also installed six gardens over three acres, where we are able to hold outdoor programs as well as provide a space for the community to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors.

As a busy and vital cultural resource, WAC has evolved into one of the most vibrant art centers in the region, welcoming more than 35,000 visitors and program participants annually.

Wayne Art Center carries out its mission through three distinct types of programs for students, members, and the community:

Education – Classes and workshops are offered in the fine arts, crafts, music, culinary arts, and drama for all ages and ability levels. Each year, over 6,000 students register for more than 500 classes and workshops, and more than 1,900 children enroll in WAC’s popular Summer Art Camp.

Exhibitions – Through an active and diverse schedule of monthly exhibitions, WAC attracts artists and visitors from throughout the United States providing opportunities for artists to exhibit their work and to educate and introduce our community to new trends in the arts. Our two exhibition galleries host more than 20 free exhibitions each year, and are recognized as some of the finest in the Philadelphia region.

Outreach – WAC has a long commitment to bringing the arts to all members of the community. Through our outreach programs, we provide arts enrichment activities for underserved populations and those with special needs.
