Wayside Christian Mission is a grass roots organization established in 1957 to serve the homeless of the Metro Louisville area. We operate both emergency and transitional shelters for homeless men, women, and children, a child development center for homeless preschoolers, day shelters for homeless adults, and two dining halls which served over 415,000 meals last year to Louisville’s homeless and hungry.

The purpose of the Wayside Christian Mission is to respond to human need of the poor and homeless by providing temporary housing/shelter, food, clothing, nurturing, spiritual and social enrichment, encouragement and referrals; and by providing the support services and skills that would permit and encourage a return to a state of self-sufficiency so that human dignity can be restored and the love of God can be shared.

With this mission in mind, we provide several life-changing programs to assist our residents in returning to the community as self-sufficient, productive citizens.  We host a variety of educational activities including GED tutoring, job skills training, life skills classes, parenting seminars, tips on securing housing and entitlement funding, and tutoring for children attending public schools.  Our Recovery Program is a peer-model educational facility for those homeless suffering from chemical dependency. Wayside also provides transitional housing for mentally ill women needing short-term assistance in medication stabilization in a safe and loving environment. We are dedicated to providing hope and dignity to those less fortunate. Your donations will assure that we can continue to afford these life-changing services to our clients.
