WE LIFT LA NEWS BRIEF!! 

Dear Friends of WE LIFT LA,

WE LIFT LA has shifted our focus to assisting transitional-aged youth beyond age 26 and expanded our mission to meet the “justice-impacted " needs of this forgotten, marginalized sector in our community.  

·         4,000  The number of 18-year-olds that are aged out of foster care each year in California

·         36%    The number of these young adults who are unhoused within 18 months of aging out

·         51%    The number of these young adults who are unemployed within 2-4 years of emancipation

·         40%    The number of these young men and women who are on public assistance within 2-4 years of emancipation.

·          70%   of the inmates in the California Prison System are former foster youth.

What happens when someone is released back into the community and faces challenges, such as a lack of money, a home, and a job? Recidivism is a huge problem for them. We aim to empower those who have experienced incarceration at universities and colleges and beyond by building community collaboration through innovative partnerships.  The Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC) and Testimony Ministries work to end mass incarceration in California.

We will provide personal, supportive guidance after their release to assist them in connecting and rebuilding relationships by helping them find employment and strengthen our community with a decrease in the return of former inmates to prison.
