Well Incorporated

For over a decade, we've creatively created spaces in which to forge community with the poor. In doing so, we've learned that poverty is material, but it is also deeply relational. We want to invite others into these spaces too, so we offer community meals, a mobile unit distributing material goods, and a bicycle co-op. In these spaces, we've found our own selfishness healed, and found within such a diverse community there is a deep well of joy, belonging and kinship. Unlike other non-profits, we want to stay small, grassroots, and relational. We've learned that we have to make poverty personal before dreaming of making it history, and we've got several points of connection where we invite others to join us on this journey:

The Kinship is our mobile unit. We distribute material goods to people that need them in the form of a pop-up market. We are mobile because the poor have to be mobile. We use the pop-up market model so it is a dignifying experience for everyone involved; a market involves choice, something poverty doesn't typically allow.

The Good is our weekly community meals. We have served dinner at a local low-income boarding house for about a decade. We partner with Metropolitan Ministries, and twice a week share dinner at the The Good Samaritan Inn. Because of our consistency at this location, our team has built meaningful friendships with residents there.

The Conscious Party is our once a month open-mic night. When you are poor or living on the street, there are not many places for you to shine and share your talent. You wouldn't believe the amount of talent, creativity, and beauty that is shared at this open-mic. It is a beautiful time to witness individuals opening up despite fear, and celebrate who they are.

Well Built Bikes is our social enterprise start-up. We operate a earn-a-bike program where people can volunteer 10 hours and earn a bicycle. We are expanding this into a refurbished bicycle shop with sliding scale repairs in order to generate income opportunities for friends with little job opportunities but with some killer bikes skills.
