West Career & Technical Academy

West Career and Technical Academy is a magnet high school located in Summerlin, Nevada. When students attend, they focus on one of the nine program areas offered at the school, which are classified under either the Medical Science academy or the Environmental, Engineering, and Technical academy. West Tech offers the following programs: Biomedical, Biotechnology, Nursing, Sports Medicine, Environmental Science, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Business Management, Digital Media, and Information Technology. These programs offer students a chance to get a head start in the career they want to go towards, and at the end of their junior year, some programs are offered a chance at getting a certification in the job they have been studying. For example, nursing students get a chance to sit for their Nursing Assistant Certification. West Career and Technical Academy is also a Google certified school, every student is given a Google email and students communicate through that. Being a Google school also gives the students a chance to talk, share, and collaborate, allowing them to explore all of the possibilities and create wonderful projects using a variety of programs on the internet such as Adobe and Microsoft Office. Twice a year, our school also gets together and participates in a school-wide project, also known as Project Based Learning. PBL allows students from all different programs to combine and solve a problem and create a beautiful project together.  In 2014, West Career & Technical Academy ranked better than 92.5% of high schools in Nevada. It also ranked 5th among 51 ranked high schools in the Clark County School District.
