West Rehoboth Community Land Trust

A nonprofit organization

Project Black Communities Matter is our mission to stop gentrification in a historically black community. Our goal is to purchase all land in West Rehoboth  affordable to West Rehoboth Community Land Trust. We  also will continue to partnership with Sussex County Habitat for Humanity in an effort to build affordable housing.  This project is dedicated to helping families of all ages that are life time residents of this community. It will help residents feel secure being able to live where their ancestors worked hard to maintain their properties to pass down to the younger generation. They will have knowledge that is crucial to preserving their legacy . Gentrification is happening so rapidly that it seems impossible. West Rehoboth residents include low income families, housing that is beyond repair, homeless and elderly without the means or knowledge. This project will help build affordable housing, revitalize the community and bring them one step closer to stopping gentrification. We currently provide four rental  homes to low income families, two families have participated in the partnership with Sussex County Habitat for Humanity, two families were giving mobile homes due to inhabitable conditions, and helped remove trees due to mother nature . Families in West Rehoboth range from age 1 to 97 years of age. This project will greatly impact the community by saving them from becoming homeless and by giving them security and comfort ability with living in healthy conditions  they can afford. A sense of social justice due to the facts that gentrification is gradually happening . Properties have been sold at a lower rate and three story homes have been built,  five plus businesses are operating as if school age children do not reside within 20 feet of them. Our mission is to be grateful for any resource that we obtain to put an end to the very thing that is happening.
