The Western Washington University Foundation exists to generate and maximize private support for the benefit of WWU, to ensure proper use and expenditure of private gifts, to maximize growth and return for long-term investments and to build and expand linkages between the University and the private sector.
Western is a place for students with an appetite for ambition supported by donors dedicated to making a transformational impact on others' lives. Through close relationships with professors, a family-like atmosphere, and a fierce commitment to academic excellence, Western is a place that helps students channel their passion, develop their purpose-and with the support of alumni and friends-pursue that purpose with everything they've got.
We bring together those who want to change the world, with the people who are changing it.
Help us Make Waves for Student Success!
Make Waves is an ambitious initiative to raise $10 million to help students from all backgrounds access the key ingredients for success: scholarships; study abroad and undergraduate research.
FACT: Over 44 million Americans currently owe $150 trillion in student loan debt. Ouch. That's roughly $620 billion more than the total U.S. credit card debt.
Need-based scholarships open the university door for aspiring students, keep them from checking out before they achieve their degree, and help them just say no to staggering debt.
FACT: College graduation rates for low-income and minority students are 20 percentage points lower than the rest of the population. We think we have a moral imperative to change that.
President's scholarships are four-year awards to high-achieving students from underserved populations who desire to Make Waves at Western…and beyond.
FACT: Globalization is changing how we live and work, and employers are increasingly looking for skilled workers who have cross-cultural experience and understanding. College should not be a comfort zone.
Studying abroad for a few weeks, or a full quarter, provides experiential learning situations that teach students to adapt to changing circumstances while learning in cross-cultural settings. They say the great ones learn to adjust. We think that's true.
FACT: Summer research experiences enhance intellectual skills, communication and teamwork. And it sure beats working at the gas station.
Supporting student research allows us to pay a stipend to students for the hours they spend researching, usually over a ten week period. It's not only a great summer job, but a resume booster too.
Together, we can Make Waves. Join us with a gift today.
