Westmoreland Walks

A nonprofit organization

Westmoreland Walks, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, was created in the year 2000 by a group of women who were touched by breast cancer in some way. Some battled the disease and some stood by a friend during the fight. Wanting to contribute toward breast cancer research and do something to help women during and after a breast cancer diagnosis, the idea of the walk was born. In keeping with our mission, Westmoreland Walks, Inc. hosts a Spa Serenity Day for Westmoreland County women battling breast cancer. To further help the women, men and families in Westmoreland County dealing with breast cancer, we have developed the "Pink Angel" fund and a "Pink Ribbon Scholarship". All of the money that we raise stays in PA and a large portion stays right in Westmoreland County!

Our walk is held each year on the first Saturday in October, breast cancer awareness month. The walk begins with registration and an opportunity to visit the Education area where there is information on breast cancer, wellness and overall health screenings. A 'Celebration of Life' ceremony honoring breast cancer survivors in attendance and remembering those who have lost their battle with breast cancer starts off the walk. Following the walk around both lakes at Twin Lakes Park, each walker is given a bag filled with goodies and informational materials, and treated to nourishing food.
