Whatcom Long Term Recovery Group

A nonprofit organization

Providing coordination and recovery services to individuals, families and entities adversely impacted by disaster in Whatcom County.

In November 2021, flooding swept through the county and shook communities. Months later, residents are still grappling with repairs, lack of shelter and even basic needs.

What began as a grassroots effort to help families devastated by flooding in Whatcom County has now grown into a full-fledged organization. Whatcom Strong, now known as the Whatcom Long Term Recovery Group.  The Long Term Recovery Group was formed to provide recovery coordination and services to individuals, families, businesses and communities adversely affected by the mid-November flood disaster and future disasters. They maintain files on each individual needing assistance, refer them to resources, help them develop recovery plans, represent their needs at the group’s Unmet Needs Committee roundtable, schedule volunteers through a volunteer committee leader and represent their needs to the repairs and rebuild committee leader.

WLTRG’s structure follows a long-term recovery group model formulated under the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster guidelines.
