Wild At Heart rescues injured owls, hawks, falcons, eagles, turkey vultures, along with the occasional  water fowl and rehabilitates them and ultimately releases them back into the wild.  Its guiding mission is to do what is in the best interests of these magnificent birds.

Wild At Heart is known and respected nationally and internationally for providing excellent care of raptors. The phone is answered 24 hours a day and every caller receives personal attention from an expert wildlife rehabilitator. Wild At Heart also provides educational programs throughout the year, along with youth volunteer opportunities.

Thanks to your support over the last 6  years, Wild At Heart has fed and cared for more than 5300 raptors.  Many of these were brought in as babies during the Spring.

Hatchlings are ravenous eaters.  Small ones like Burrowing Owls must be fed 5 times a day. Great Horned Owls, Barn Owls and hawks need to eat at least 3 times a day.  In many cases it will be months before the young raptor can be released.

Nestlings also need devoted care.  In the wild, adults birds teach their young the skills they need for survival—where to hunt for food; how to avoid predators; how to communicate. Humans simply aren't equipped to provide this essential guidance to young birds

So who is? Well, the next best thing is a surrogate parent. Wild At Heart started the first raptor foster parent program in Arizona back in 1991. Ariel and Antar the Great Horned Owls, Spinner and Dreidel the Barn Owls, and Taffy and Bolo the Harris' Hawks are a few of the resident surrogate parent birds who have helped to raise hundreds of nestlings.  They have taught them how to survive much better than even our experienced wildlife rehabilitators could.
