Birds face many challenges from our environment and nonnative predators. Year round, people of all ages and from all neighborhoods bring songbirds in need of care to our facility. In the winter months we primarily care for injured adult and migratory birds but in the spring and summer we care for hundreds of baby birds who have been orphaned or abandoned. Last year we cared for over 2700 songbirds.
In addition to the aesthetic impact of songbirds, here are a few points that highlight the importance of our organization's mission:
- Many birds species are in decline primarily due to habitat loss
- Birds aid in pest control by eating insects which provide protein, critical to their diet
- Birds pollinate plants and disperse seeds
- Most people find enjoyment simply by watching and listening to birds. Can you imagine a spring without birdsong?
Our program survives on the generosity of our donors. We receive no government funding for performing this critical function: helping with the survival of our native songbird population through care and education.
