The Winnisquam Watershed Network (WWN) was founded in 2017 as a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit lake association with a mission to preserve and protect Lake Winnisquam and its watershed for future generations. Our programs include water quality monitoring, prevention and control of invasive species, watershed management, wildlife monitoring, education and advocacy aimed at keeping the lake healthy and safe. Our team consists of volunteers who live on or near the lake and care about keeping it healthy.
Although Winnisquam has excellent water quality today it does have challenges. Nutrients like phosphorus are getting washed into Lake Winnisquam from numerous sources in the watershed, leading to decreased water clarity and more frequent algae blooms. We have had confirmed blooms of cyanobacteria on the lake – a kind of toxic algae that can kill your pets or make your children sick. We also have invasive milfoil and water violets that we must hire divers to pull each year to prevent the invasives from spreading throughout the lake.
The WWN recently completed a Watershed Management Plan for the Winnisquam watershed. The Plan identifies management practices and protection strategies that can be taken to reduce pollution and keep our lake clean and healthy in the face of increased threats to water quality. Help us put this plan into action and protect Lake Winnisquam and its watershed for future generations.
100% of your donation will be put directly to work protecting Lake Winnisquam!
