Winters Child Development Center

A nonprofit organization

The Winters Child Development Center' s mission is to assist families by providing quality child care dedicated to meeting each child's spiritual, social, emotional, physical and cognitive development in a nurturing and safe environment. Community involvement includes inviting volunteers to read to children throughout Read Across America aka Dr. Seuss Day. Each child makes individual Valentine cards for our local nursing home residents and various holiday decorations for the nursing home

The 2000 census data reports Winters per capita income is $11,030. Medial household income is reported at $25,587 with 20.6% of families under the poverty level. Winters ISD reports
70.3% of students qualify for Free and Reduced Lunches. Due to the lower income of the area we set our tuition rate to cover payroll expenses and cover operation expenses through fundraisers, grants and donations. We are the only licensed daycare between Ballinger and Abilene which is approximately 50 miles.
WCDC has been awarded Rising Star status which means we exceed the State Minimum Standards for daycare in several areas. This includes additional continuing education for teachers and Director. Topics include challenging behavior, family communication, accommodating children and families with special needs, resources for growth and development, respecting family culture and uniqueness, teacher's response impact on children's behavior, helping children coping with disruptive changes in their lives and more.
