Historic Lipscomb, Texas, the town with more turkeys than people, is home to the Wolf Creek Heritage Museum. Our museum is the keeper of artifacts and history of Lipscomb County, Texas. From our early pioneers and historic cattle ranches to local art and memorabilia, there is something to pique the interest of everyone.
In 1981 a group of Lipscomb County individuals established what is now the Lipscomb County Historical Society, who came together to discuss plans to build a museum of Lipscomb County history. These trailblazers set the foundation for everything we have built thus far. The museum was originally housed in the Lipscomb School. In 1999 ground was broken for the first installment of our current building, which houses our current collection and many community events and activities. This museum and all that has happened throughout the past 44 years is thanks to countless volunteers and community members who have donated time, money, family treasures, and so much love and effort to us.
We have spent the past year revitalizing our museum and our role in our communities. We have enjoyed meeting our younger patrons this year through classes, activities, and visits. We have greatly enjoyed becoming more involved in our communities and sharing the valuable information inside our walls with the world.
We are again reaching out to each of you to keep this dream alive. Like our early founders, we face some of the same issues. Our collection has grown each year and we realize that this will continue on through the years. As a board, we are looking at long term plans for both our museum and county. We are currently weighing options to expand exhibit space for our artifacts. We hope to present these plans by the end of the year. We also hope to preserve and revive some local traditions, buildings, and artifacts to save them for future generations. We hope that this work will not only preserve our heritage but also encourage visitors, both local and from further afield to visit Lipscomb county. We are also in the process of digitizing the Booker News and, after completion, these documents will be available for anyone with internet access to view the paper. This will preserve the paper for future generations and the process could potentially help us preserve many important documents and papers currently housed in the museum.
