This May, in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, Womankind aims to raise $10,000 to sustain our language-accessible, culturally relevant, trauma-informed services and advocacy for survivors of gender-based violence (domestic and sexual violence, human trafficking, and other forms) and their families.
We are grateful and excited to share that this year, one of our incredible board members has generously offered to match our goal, doubling the impact of all gifts up to $10,000 and maximizing your impact across our diverse AAPI communities.
Each year, Womankind serves nearly 2,100 survivors of gender-based violence across genders, ages, ethnicities and races, sexual orientation, religious backgrounds, immigration histories, and beyond.
We offer comprehensive services ranging from our 24/7 confidential, multilingual hotline, emergency residences (shelters), culturally humble counseling, economic empowerment and housing resources, immigration and family legal services, healing and self-care workshops, children and youth programs, a peer-based outreach ambassador program for seniors, and more.
While all survivors are individuals with unique stories, our “average” client is a 37-year-old Asian immigrant woman with two children to support and an income of about $15,000 per year. Throughout this May, we look forward to walking alongside you as we share just one survivor's pathway to healing through Womankind's multifaceted programs and services. Each week, we will unfold a new piece of a survivor's journey with Womankind.
This AAPI Heritage Month, you have the opportunity to be part of this survivor’s journey and to make a difference in the lives of the thousands more survivors and children Womankind serves.
We are so thankful to you for being a part of our community and uplifting the survivorship, strength, and resilience of all survivors of gender-based violence. Since our founding 42 years ago as the first organization for Asian women and by Asian women during a time when nothing of its kind existed on the East Coast, our AAPI communities have shown this same capacity to care for each other across generations, and we hope you will continue to join us in the movement to Rise Above Violence.
Thank you for your generosity and AAPI community spirit!
