The Women's Leadership Institute fulfills its mission by working on a variety of initiatives to elevate women into leadership positions in business and politics.

Women in Politics

The Women’s Leadership Institute offers a Political Development Series (PDS) every year, a 6-month interactive and instructive training that teaches women the how and why of running for public office.

Spurred on by her participation in the Political Development Series, Lisa Bagley decided to run for city council. She used fundraising techniques learned in the PDS to ask for campaign donations, and received generous support. Bev Uipi was also a participant in the Political Development Series, where she met Lisa Bagley and they discovered they would be running against each other for city council. After Lisa came in third in the primary, she decided to support Bev in the general election because after getting to know each other in the PDS, they discovered they had a similar vision and values. Bev went on to win the city council seat. Though she lost in the primary, Lisa says that the Political Development Series gave her the skills, knowledge, tools, and most importantly, courage to run for office.
