Wonderfest

In The Demon-Haunted World, astronomer Carl Sagan wrote, "I hold that the popularization of science is successful if, at first, it does no more than spark the sense of wonder." With these words, back in 1997, Wonderfest was born. Ever since, Wonderfest has inspired Bay Area audiences with the insights of great scientists and teachers. Wonderfest's programs include: (1) monthly science lectures with follow-up online video; (2) assistance to educational organizations (Cal Academy, Chabot Space & Science Center, Commonwealth Club, etc.) in finding great science speakers; (3) public speaking and media training for Cal & Stanford PhD candidates ("Science Envoys"); (4) "Radical Physics" videos to encourage youngsters to study nature's deepest laws; and (5) the "Carl Sagan Prize for Science Popularization" to reward Bay Area researchers who engage the public -- and share their insights with enthusiasm, accuracy, and a sense of wonder.
