The Workers Center for Racial Justice (WCRJ) is a grassroots organization fighting for Black Liberation and a fair and inclusive society that benefits all people.
We organize Black workers and their families to address the root causes of high rates of unemployment, low-wage work and over-criminalization impacting Black communities. Through organizing, policy advocacy, leadership development and voter engagement, we are building a caring economy and society that allow Black people to reach their full human potential.
Formerly incarcerated workers founded WCRJ in 2012. Our organizational activities include:
Relationship building: our Inclusive Democracy Team of canvassers go door-to-door in Black neighborhoods that have been impacted by disinvestment and over-criminalization, with the goal of learning about the issues that residents are most concernedabout and engaging new members.
Leadership development: we offer community members a range of activities designed to build their civic leadership skills, including issues education sessions, organizing trainings, and workshops on how they can impact the legislative process.
Black voter engagement: we talk to voters in their communities year-round to drive informed electoral participation, increase Black voter turnout, and combat voter suppression.
Grassroots policy advocacy:informed by input from thousands of community members each year, we develop and advance policies that improve quality of life for Black individuals and families, low-wage workers, formerly incarcerated persons, and other marginalized communities.
Issues campaigns: weconnect issues that are important to low-income Black communities to the importance of ongoing civic and electoral participation
Direct action: through organized acts of protest, community forums, and other activities designed to hold elected officials accountable to the needs of Black residents, we build public support for key structural reforms.
