Organization Description
Writing For Freedom (WFF) is a youth-centered, Black woman-led nonprofit based in North Carolina that creates brave, creative spaces for Black girls and young women to reclaim their voices and write their futures. Through workshops, storytelling programs, and leadership development, WFF empowers our girls and young women—especially those navigating various systems of oppression—to find healing, build community, and develop the tools to lead change. Founded and led by a writer, educator, and community builder, WFF offers culturally responsive, trauma-informed programs that uplift creativity as a tool for Black liberation. From writing intensives to arts-based mentorship and digital storytelling initiatives, our programs center the voices and lived experiences of young Black women while fostering confidence, critical thinking, and leadership. We are deeply embedded in our community and driven by a vision of equity, imagination, and systemic change. By nurturing the creativity and brilliance of the next generation, Writing For Freedom is building a world where Black girls can thrive unapologetically—and be the authors of their own lives.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to empower Black girls and women to reclaim their narratives, build confidence, and discover their voices through creative writing, mentorship, and leadership development. By providing safe spaces and transformative opportunities, we aim to inspire the next generation of storytellers, leaders, and changemakers.
Our Vision
We envision a world where Black girls and women are empowered to author their own lives and shape society through the transformative power of storytelling.
